Police hunting man with crossbow as armed officers spotted near school

Police are believed to be hunting for a man carrying a crossbow with armed officers spotted near a school in Plymouth.

Emergency calls were made around 2.30pm, with responders then rushing to Beaumont Park. No threats were reported to have been made. And a search of the area - which has included a police helicopter - has not yet located anyone matching the description. Enquiries remain ongoing.

A number of Devon and Cornwall Police officers were spotted outside Salisbury Road Primary School, but it is not known at this stage what this is in relation to. The officers are reportedly no longer outside the school.

The National Police Air Service helicopter continues to circle. One eyewitness said: "There are armed police stationed outside the school, four coppers in one car." They later confirmed they had left the area.

Another added: "There are lots of police driving around as if they are looking for someone."

The force told PlymouthLive in a statement: "Police were called at 2.30pm to Beaumont Park, Plymouth, following a report of a man in possession of a cross bow. No threats were reported to have been made.

"Armed officers attended and searched the area but have not located anyone matching the description. Enquiries are ongoing."
