Billy Baldwin shares his connection to 'average guy' Gilgo Beach murder suspect
It has been over 13 years since a string of murders were uncovered following the search for 24-year-old Shannon Gilbert, who had gone missing.
Now, police have arrested Rex Heuermann for the deaths of three of the victims: Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Watermann, and Amber Costello. Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to all counts of murder.
Billy Baldwin, who is part of the Baldwin acting dynasty, has revealed he knows the suspect.
He wrote in a recent Twitter post: "Shocked to learn this morning that the Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect was my high school classmate Rex Heuermann."
Gligo Beach is in Babylon, New York, which is not far from Berner High School in Massapequa, New York. Both Baldwin and Heuermann graduated from the school in 1981.
Double killer who slit girlfriend's throat within weeks of release jailedBaldwin described the town as "in shock" over the news. He also described the murder suspect as an "average guy... quiet, family man".
During the initial investigation, police had found hair on a burlap used to wrap one of the victim's bodies. While at the time the DNA did not point them in the direct of a suspect, they held on to the evidence incase it became helpful in the future. As the investigation continued, more details and characteristics about the suspect came from witnesses.
Eventually, evidence pointed them toward Heuermann and the police picked up a pizza box he discarded. After swabbing for DNA and cross checking it with the DNA from the hair, they were able to confirm it was a match.
Billy was not the only of the Baldwin brothers who attended the same school as Heuermann. In fact, all of his brothers – Alec, Daniel, Billy, and Stephen – did, reports Fox News Digital.
The rest of the Baldwin family hasn't shared whether they knew Heuermann or how close they were too him. However, there is nothing to indicate that they were friends.
