Legendary caddy Billy Foster believes Tiger Woods handed him a job after he rescued him from a tight toilet spot.

Tiger Woods went to the bathroom before teeing off during the 2002 Ryder Cup but was left without toilet paper - something he realised when it was too late. Foster came to his rescue with just minutes to spare until Woods was scheduled to be out on the course.

Foster was later hired as Woods' caddy for the Presidents Cup in 2005, but he's certain it was because of their moment three years earlier that he got the job. "I am walking out and I hear this little sigh," Foster told the Daily Mail. "Oh, he knows now that he’s in trouble. And it’s six minutes until he’s on the tee. Oh Tiger. But I can’t do it to him, so I roll up some paper, get down on my knees, and present it to him under the door.

"I was the hand of god to him in that moment. 'You’ll probably need this'. He grabs at it and then as I’m halfway through the door, I just say, 'Europe, one up', and walk out. "He came out with the biggest smile. 'Billy Foster, I owe you'. I caddied for him at the Presidents Cup in 2005 — I swear that’s why I got the job. Not because I’m a good caddie but because I was the s***house saviour."

Foster has caddied at over 1,200 tournaments, partnering with some of the best players to ever grace the golf course. Woods was certainly one of them, and they share one of the most bizarre friendship stories.

Matt Fitzpatrick will be caddied by Foster at The Open this week, and they'll be hoping to do better than they did further north in Scotland. Fitzpatrick was cut from the Scottish Open, and Rory McIlroy went on to win the event as he held off Robert MacIntyre to finish 15-under par.

Foster won his first ever major as a caddy with Fitzpatrick at the US Open in 2022, a moment he'd spent his whole career waiting for. Fitzpatrick held off home favourites Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris to win the event by a single stroke, but players from the United Kingdom haven't had the best experience on home soil in recent years.

An Englishman hasn't won the tournament since 1992. Nick Faldo won three tournaments between 1987-1992, ending the drought after Tony Jacklin last won in 1969.
