While Coronation Street is largely known for its incredible comedic quips and light-hearted witty barbs, its sadder moments also touch fans and stay in their minds for years to come.

And the reminder of one tragic anniversary sparked heartbreak among fans as the soap's social media paid tribute seven years on.

In heartbreaking scenes on the cobbles, David Platt lost the love of his life after Kylie was brutally stabbed by Clayton Hibbs. As she lay bleeding out in the street, she died in David's arms - prompting one of the most devastating breakdowns Weatherfield has ever seen.

Corrie captioned the clip with a broken heart emoji and wrote: "7 years today David lost Kylie."

Devastated fans flocked to comment, with one writing: "Honestly, I remember this moment. Truly heartbreaking scene. Amazing acting from all involved."

While another commented: "Still makes me cry all these years later."

A third wrote: "Award winning performance by @jackpshepherd88 and @paula_laney , I remember watching this and being in floods of tears…and still till this day, it makes me cry…. BRAVO."

Actress Tina O'Brien was also among the many Corrie stars to comment, writing: "Oh my goodness, stop @paula_laney is just incredible. And @jackpshepherd88 is insanely good good, breaks my heart."

In response, Paula Lane - who played Kylie - commented: "Aw feeling the love, thank you Corrie family xxx."

While David actor Jack P Shepherd wrote: "Very sad. Lovely comments guys thank you."

Since Kylie's death, David met Shona - who he later discovered was Kylie's killer Clayton's mum. He later made an explosive return after demanding that she smuggle drugs into the prison or he would be assaulted. After she failed to do so, he was brutally assaulted and ended up in Weatherfield General. He later told her he wished she had died instead of his dad.

He managed to escape during his father's funeral and later took Shona hostage after she told the police where he was.

She managed to get away after a stand-off with police and stabbed her son in self-defence. Shona later vowed to never see Clayton again after discovering how little remorse he showed over all the bad things he had done.
