Two Just Stop Oil protestors have run onto the stage during the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall tonight.

The activists shortly unfurled an orange banner and attempted to address the audience before they were removed from the stage.

A video shared on social media by the group - which is calling on the government to commit to ending new fossil fuel licensing and production - shows the protestors being booed as they are dragged away by security staff.

The environmental group tweeted: "The pair set off confetti cannons and sounded air horns, demanding the UK government immediately halt all new oil and gas consents and licences.

Just Stop Oil added: "Tonight’s action comes in response to the BBC’s underwhelming coverage of the climate emergency.

"In recent weeks, the BBC has been accused of ‘false balance’ as well as uncritically regurgitating government and oil company propaganda."

A BBC spokesperson said: "There was no disruption to the concert or the broadcast during the few seconds the protesters were on stage."

The BBC told The Mirror there were no air horns or confetti cannons as the environmental group claimed - and added there was no disruption to the concert or broadcast.

The environmental group has targeted a number of events this year, including Wimbledon, the Chelsea Flower Show and the Ashes.

Earlier this month, we revealed that the man behind Just Stop Oil was plotting to crash the justice system with a week of chaos starting this month.

Roger Hallam called on activists to carry out slow marches in London for seven days – and defy any police attempts to stop them.

It came as the eco group blocked the capital’s Pride march at the end of June, urging the LGBTQ+ event to condemn new oil, gas and coal.

Activists sat in front of the festival’s Coca-Cola float, branding the firm “the world’s worst plastic polluter”.

Meanwhile, in a leaked battle cry speech, Mr Hallam claimed the week of slow marches – from July 16 to 23 – will act as a warm-up for October when he wants 3,000 activists arrested in a month to overwhelm police and the courts. He warned of “all hell breaking loose”.

Just Stop Oil have been using slow march tactics to disrupt traffic since April – but have previously given up when police arrive.

Mr Hallam, 57, said: “We know 3,000 arrests is the point when the judiciary and police start to crack.”
