Wetherspoon's pub-goer gets £5,000 after finding straw in his drink

A man won £5,000 after finding a special straw in his drink at Wetherspoons.

Nicholas Jainath, was at the V-Shed in Bristol when he discovered a golden straw in his pitcher - but initially had no idea what it meant.

The straw, in a pitcher of Au Vodka Candy Rosá was discovered just after 9pm - one of a handful of golden straws which could see Wetherspoons customers win big between now and September.

It comes as premium spirit maker, Au Vodka, join forces with the pub chain to dish out the prize money to three winners. Co-founder, Charlie Morgan, informed punters of the jackpot in an Instagram post, reports Bristol Live.

Explaining what customers need to look out for, he said: "For your chance to win £5,000 this summer, just go to Wetherspoons and buy an Au Vodka Candy Rosá. If you find the golden straw, you win £5,000 and me, personally deliver it to you.

South Wales company Au Vodka has been named one of the fastest-growing companies in the UK. The popular Swansea drinks brand appeared in the new Sunday Times 100 rankings revealed on Friday, June 30.

Au Vodka was started back in 2016 by friends Charlie Morgan and Jackson Quinn who last year spoke to WalesOnline about how they spotted a gap in the market by creating their own eye-catching gold bottles of vodka. They now make 35,000 bottles daily.
