Former NFL quarterback and LA Chargers legend Philip Rivers is preparing to welcome his tenth child after sarcastically jesting that he and his daughters would prefer a baby boy, as the large family already has seven girls.

The 41-year-old former LA Chargers signal caller shared that he and his wife, Tiffany, are expecting a baby boy in the fall. The announcement was made during a 7-on-7 event in Daphne, Alabama.

The couple already have nine children, ages four to 21. Prior to the arrival of their newest addition, the Rivers family consists of seven girls and two boys. One of their sons is preparing to assume the starting quarterback role at St. Michael Catholic, where Philip Rivers also serves as a coach.

Having retired from professional football in 2021 after a 17-year career in the NFL, Rivers, an eight-time Pro Bowler, expressed his enthusiasm about expanding his family with his wife, noting that they are thrilled to welcome another child into the world - specifically a boy.

"We've had one pretty much every two years, and now this is the longest gap," Rivers said. "We are all fired up. Everyone was pulling for a boy. Even our girls wanted a boy."

Rivers and his wife have not selected a name for their soon-to-arrive newborn. The former quarterback humorously mentioned that they have received "numerous opinions" regarding potential names.

Additionally, Rivers shared that he hails from an extensive family background, with his mother and father being one among nine siblings. "We thought we would be the third generation of nine, but we decided to go double-digits — or I should say we didn't decide it. God decided," Rivers added.

Rivers assumed the role of starting quarterback for the Chargers, previously based in San Diego, in 2006. Over the following years, he displayed marathon man capabilities by starting all 16 regular-season games for 15 consecutive seasons.

He achieved this accomplishment for 14 seasons with the Chargers as the franchise relocated to Los Angeles, then finalising his career after spending one season with the Indianapolis Colts in 2020. He recorded at least 20 touchdown passes, 250 completions, and 3,000 passing yards in each season.

With his retirement, Rivers concludes his career ranking fifth in three major career categories: completed passes (5,277), passing yards (63,440), and passing touchdowns (421). Rivers consistently battled and trailed the esteemed quartet of Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Brett Favre in each category, though the specific order varies per classification.

Distinct from the quarterbacks above, Rivers did not have the opportunity to play on a team that advanced to the Super Bowl. His playoff record stands at five wins and seven losses. Nonetheless, he attained eight Pro Bowl selections and consistently led in numerous passing categories for a season or two.
