MAIN - Simon Cowell sells £45million mansion and quits London because he 'no longer feels safe'

Simon Cowell has sold his £45 million mansion in Holland Park following a string of security threats, according to reports.

The TV mogul, 63, reportedly told his friends that he feels 'unsafe' in Kensington, having suffered a number of home intrusions while living in the Central London borough for the past 16 years. He and his partner Lauren Silverman, along with their nine-year-old son Eric, are now living in the countryside. It's understood that the quiet sale of the six-bedroom mansion was completed a few days ago.

Despite spending £500,000 on security to safeguard the home, Simon was subject to repeat intrusions while living in Holland Park. Last month, it was alleged that a criminal gang had even sold the exact lock to his front door.

In 2015, thieves broke into the property in the early hours of the morning and stole jewellery worth up to £1 million and two passports from an open safe. At the time, Simon and Lauren as well as their son Eric, who was a baby at the time, were asleep in their beds.

"One hundred per cent I’d like to meet the guy," the X Factor star later said of the incident. "If we found him I’d want to have a conversation with him. I don’t want to say too much right now because I am angry. As a dad you have to realise the psychological damage it does having someone you don’t know in your home 3ft away from your little boy."

The Britain's Got Talent judge also said he was disappointed that his three dogs didn't raise any alarms when the invasion happened, admitting, "They didn’t make a sound. They’re usually always barking but they chose not to at that time. Now I have dogs that bark."

Simon also experienced a scary encounter at his Holland Park residence in 2012, when a woman wielding a brick broke into the property while the TV personality was at home watching television.

The 29-year-old was arrested and later received a 12-month community order, as well as a restraining order against Simon. At the time, his spokesperson described the incident as 'very frightening'.

Simon also has lavish homes in Malibu and Los Angeles, and previously owned a £17 million mansion in Wimbledon. It's understood that he sold the latter, however, after finding his son Eric's school run from South London 'too long'.
