Welsh actor Rob Brydon has revealed Hollywood actress Margot Robbie is a surprise fan of the comedy series Gavin and Stacey.

The Barbie star, 33, is such a huge fan of the British comedy show that it may have helped Rob land a role in the upcoming film. Margot developed a soft spot for Rob's much-loved Uncle Bryn in the programme set in Barry, south Wales.

Her love for the character has made Rob believe it helped him land a small role in the hotly-anticipated movie. “I had a message a few years ago that Margot Robbie was a big fan of Uncle Bryn and would I record a message for her birthday.

"So I recorded a video for her. I think maybe this part is her way of saying thank you," he explained to virginradio.co.uk.

"I said, ‘Hello Margot. I've loved you in all your films and I'll tell you for why...’ So when I met her on the set, she said, 'Ah, thank you so much for that message…' So that was quite nice.”

Barbie is based on the popular Mattel doll of the same name and follows Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s Ken as they leave Barbie Land and travel to the real world.

The cast rocked up to London's Leicester Square to take to the pink carpet for the European premiere of the film on Wednesday. Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey, America Ferrera, and Dua Lipa also stormed the pink carpet ahead of the movie's release in UK cinemas on July 21.

Stars of the show were Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling who looked every inch the perfect Barbie and Ken as they posed for snaps on the red carpet.

Margot Robbie stunned in an iconic look befitting the world-famous doll as she posed in a custom floor-length dress by Vivienne Westwood in pale pink satin. The silk evening gown featured a corset bodice and a fur-style trim in a nod to a vintage 1960 Enchanted Evening Barbie doll.

Margot finished her perfectly styled look with a pearl choker necklace and white evening gloves as well as Barbie-inspired clear heels, with her long blonde hair swept up into a soft updo.

Complimenting her Barbie-themed look, lead actor Ryan Gosling wore a light sage-coloured suit with an open white shirt as he stood beside his co-star on the pink carpet.

They appeared to have a fun-filled night after the premiere as they headed to a Slug & Lettuce bar for a photocall before partying with film stars and friends at London's Chiltern Firehouse.

Those in attendance included singer Margot, Ryan, Dua Lipa, Louise Redknapp, and model Adwoa Aboah. Margot had an outfit change into a corseted red satin mini dress and chic red kitten heels with her long blonde locks up in a loose updo.

Photographers snapped the 33-year-old leaving the after-party looking slightly bleary eyed following a long evening as she left the luxury hotel, where the party was held, at 3.30am.
