Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is prepared to offer Harry Kane a post-playing role to keep him in North London, it has been claimed.

Kane, 29, became Spurs' highest ever scorer last season when he surpassed Jimmy Greaves' record for the club. The England skipper is in the final year of his current contract, though, and is attracting plenty of interest.

Bayern Munich and Manchester United are both keen on the striker, who hit 30 Premier League goals last term, but neither has provided a bid which has met Tottenham's valuation. While Kane can leave on a free next summer, Levy is said to have changed tack in an effort to extend his stay.

According to The Mail, Spurs' efforts are twofold. They will offer Kane new and improved terms - a contract worth £400,000 per week has been mooted - with the post-playing element on top of this.

It has been suggested that such discussions would give Kane the opportunity to begin a coaching career with Spurs if he decides to go down that route. Other former Tottenham stars to take up similar roles include ex-captain Ledley King and former caretaker boss Ryan Mason.

Mason began a second spell as caretaker last term, becoming Spurs' third manager of the season after Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini. The former midfielder is staying in North London as part of Ange Postecoglou's coaching staff as the Australian prepares for his first season in charge.

Spurs are understood to want north of £120m if they are to sell Kane. This is more than any club has offered so far, with Bayern seeing initial approaches knocked back.

According to The Athletic, Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen met with Levy in London on Thursday. However, no new bid is understood to have been lodged.

"I haven't had any assurances and I wouldn't expect any assurances, because when you're dealing with these kind of things you're never dealing with definitives or certainties in anything in life," Spurs boss Postecoglou said ahead of his first meeting with Kane. ‌"That's just my nature. I just kind of go along and try to concentrate on the things I know right now.

"What I know right now is that Harry is part of this squad and he's looking forward to coming back to training and being amongst these players and starting to work together. So in the meantime, I'm not going to lose time or sleep on conjecture that may or may not be out there because then you're jumping at shadows - how much of it is true, how much of it is not true.‌"
