Lewis Capaldi made an unexpected return to stage to show love to his pop star pal, after announcing a career break.

The Scottish hitmaker, 26, made the tough decision to take a step back from touring after admitting to struggling with his Tourettes following his Glastonbury set.

In an emotional statement after his Worthy Farm performance, Lewis explained he would be taking a break for the "foreseeable future" as he needs "to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order".

Yet the Someone You Loved star left fans stunned as he made an appearance at Kew The Music on Wednesday night alongside The Vamps. The pop band were headlining the Royal Botanic Gardens when singer Brad Simpson could be seen walking to the side of the stage.

They could be seen having a quick chat with each other, which left them both giggling. Lewis shot off backstage, whilst Brad came back under the spotlight with a huge smile on his face before carrying on with the set.

The unexpected moment sent fans into a frenzy online as well as in person as one said: "As if Lewis Capaldi came on stage with the vamps tonight."

"Lewis Capaldi just quickly came on stage during the Vamps WHAT," added another, whilst someone else wrote: "Lewis Capaldi coming on stage at a Vamps concert was something I thought I’d never see."

"Looked away for a second and suddenly Brad was koala hugging Lewis Capaldi side stage while nobody knew lewis capaldi was even in London let alone at the vamps at kew gardens," commented a fourth.

Lewis announced his decision to step back from performing after his headline set at Glastonbury, he took to his Instagram and Twitter pages to share an emotional statement with his fans.

He wrote: "First of all thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.

"The fact that this probably won't come as a surprise doesn't make it any easier to write, but I'm very sorry to let you know I'm going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.

"I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I'd hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come."

The musician went on to add: "I know I'm incredibly fortunate to be able to take times out when others can't and I'd like to thank my amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who've been so supportive every step of the way through the good times and even more so during this part year when I've needed it more than ever.

"I'm so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve. Playing for you every night is all I've ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I'll be back as soon as I possibly can. All my love, always, Lewis x."

In his first interview since releasing his statement, Lewis joked that "life is meaningless" as he claimed record labels "know nothing" about music and even labelled his own hits as "f****** failures".

Speaking on YouTube series interview series Hot Ones, Lewis was asked what he's learnt whilst being in the industry. He said: "Right, you just learn that you don't know anything. You learn you don't know anything and nobody has the answers.

"You don't know what a hit is - every time I think a song is a smash hit, it's been a complete abject f*****g failure. Labels know nothing, you know nothing. Nobody knows anything. No offence."
