BBC Breakfast presenter Jon Kay was missing from his usual spot on the red sofa for the second time this week as he enjoyed his annual leave.

The star, 53, usually hosts the show with co-star Sally Nugent, 51, between Monday and Wednesday.

Ben Thompson stepped in to host the programme with Sally this morning.

He previously took to social media to announce the reason behind his absence on the morning programme.

"Enjoying some extra sleep and long-planned annual leave with the family, so no need to set my alarm clock tomorrow morning," the presenter said.

"Back on the red sofa with my BBC Breakfast family in Salford in two weeks’ time," he wrote along with an emoji of an alarm clock.

Fans of Jon rushed to the comment section to wish the presenter a relaxing holiday while some pointed out it was a "shame" he had to clarify his absence from the show, following the reports an unnamed BBC presenter allegedly paid a teenager for sexually explicit images.

"Have a lovely break Jon, kick back and relax," one said while another posted: "See you back soon Jon. Enjoy your break."

One user posted: "Have a gorgeous well earned holiday with your family. Me and my family love your reporting style. Thank you."

"Awful you had to put this tweet out but I can see why in the circumstances," a concerned fan said.

Sally recently addressed Jon's absence while hosting BBC Breakfast with Ben.

“I have to say, it is lovely to have you with us this morning. Thank you for coming to keep me company,” she told the stand-in host.

“You’re very welcome, it’s lovely to be here,” he replied with a smile.

Weather presenter Carol Kirkwood also highlighted Jon’s absence from the show, as she and Ben joked about the bad forecast.

“The most important thing, Jon will want to know what the weather is going to be like for his bit of time off,” Ben said. “Is it going to rain for Jon’s little break?”

Confirming it was a rainy and cloudy outlook for the next few days, Carol laughed and simply said: “Poor Jon.”

Jon's clarification tweet comes as it was reported that an unnamed BBC presenter allegedly paid a teenager for sexually explicit images.

The mother of the teenager in question claims her child was paid more than £35,000 for sexually explicit pictures. She also says her child used the money to fund an addiction to crack cocaine and blames the presenter for "destroying her child's life".

The employee has been suspended from the BBC following the allegations.

A lawyer representing the young person at the centre of the allegations made against a BBC presenter has disputed their mother's claims.

Following the BBC News reporting the legal letter, the mother spoke out via The Sun and questioned how her child can afford to hire a lawyer. She stands by her original claims.
