Two men have been seriously injured after a violent incident in Redruth on Thursday night.

One man has sustained a suspected gunshot and a second man was reported to have been assaulted with an axe.

The gunshot victim is in hospital and fighting for his life. The second man is in hospital with a serious head injury.

A number of resources, including armed units and the police helicopter, remain in the area of Drump Road at this time and the incident is said to be ongoing.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses, reports Cornwall Live.

Detective Superintendent Jon Bancroft, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “Detectives and specialist officers are deployed to support our initial investigation and we will provide further information in due course.

“I would urge anyone with information which may assist our enquiries, including dash-cam and CCTV footage in the area, to get in touch and report it to us.”

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called to the area of Drump Road, Redruth at around 6.30pm today [Thursday 6 July] following a report of a serious assault. It was reported that two men within a property had sustained injuries - both have been taken to hospital.

“One man has sustained a suspected gunshot wound to the back which is currently being treated as life-threatening. A second man was reported to have been assaulted with an axe and sustained a serious head injury.

“A number of resources, including armed units and the police helicopter, remain in the area at this time and the incident is ongoing.
