Emmerdale star Amy Walsh begged soap bosses to give her baby daughter Bonnie a role in the ITV soap.

The 36-year-old, who plays Tracy Metcalfe on the show, welcomed Bonnie, 18 months, in December 2021, with fiancé Toby Alexander-Smith.

She recently returned to Emmerdale to reprise her role as Tracy after finishing her maternity leave, and discovered her character would be opening a nursery, which led Amy to think up a brilliant idea for childcare.

The actress, who is the sister of Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh, said Tracy’s new nursery would mean she could potentially bring Bonnie into work with her, and asked Emmerdale bosses if it could be worked into the show.

“She's (Tracy) always looking for the next career move. She thinks it's a good idea to open up a nursery in the village, so that's me looking after more kids,” she told Mirror Online.

“It'll be fun. I've actually asked if Bonnie can be an extra. Then I could see her a bit more! I don't think that would be wise though,” Amy laughed.

The soap star confessed it was hard to leave Bonnie at nursery when she went back to work, and said she burst into tears after missing her daughter’s bedtime routine.

“It's a juggle, the first few weeks, the return with the big story, I was really glad to come back with a bang but the schedule was quite relentless,” she told the Loose Women panel.

“It was hard being away from her. It can be 12-hour days some days. Missing bedtime... it broke my heart,” Amy admitted.

“We were settling her into nursery the same week... I was dropping her off then sitting in the makeup chair, literally streaming going ‘She hates it’. But she doesn't, she likes it but it was that attachment thing,” she added.

Amy also spoke about her character’s upcoming storyline, and said she was excited to see Tracy rekindle her relationship with Nate.

“It'll be nice to see. Tracy moved away to Nottingham for work and she got a passion for being successful and this is just another venture she's taken herself on, whether it works or not is another matter,” she explained.

Amy met Toby, best known for playing EastEnders villain Gray Atkins, back in 2019, when they were sat next to each other in the audience of Strictly Come Dancing, and he popped the question in August last year while on holiday in Ibiza.
