Hollywood star Evangeline Lilly is clearly her own biggest critic as she has panned her own acting in the hit show Lost.

The 43-year-old Canadian actress played Kate Austen in all six seasons of the JJ Abrams created sci-fi drama which aired from 2004 until 2010 and was loved by fans for it’s wild, twisting plot.

However, Evangeline thinks fans were subjected to her worst acting of all - and she has blasted her own skills in the series.

But she does admit she found the series the perfect training ground for her own acting - which she thinks improved the longer the show stayed on the air.

Opening up about her insecurities and strengths, the star told the Happy Sad Confused podcast: “We would have Lost parties where the cast would get together to watch the show, and when it would be a Kate-centric episode, I would want to curl in a hole and die because I knew I was bad.

“And I still to this day will stand by the fact that I can watch the first couple seasons and I cringe because I’m not very good.”

She continued: “I do feel like Season 3 was a turning point, where I went from ‘panicked, figure it out, just shoot from the hip, feel it, go with my gut,’ to ‘I hate this, I don’t want to do this, get me out of here,’ to ‘oh, I guess if I’m here, I’m stuck, and I’m going to stay, I should figure it out.’

“And that was in Season 3, and I started to actually try to learn my craft.”

Her perseverance paid off, as Evangeline went on to feature in a number of high-profile films, including Oscar-winning flick The Hurt Locker, two of The Hobbit trilogy films, and various Marvel films playing Hope van Dyne, aka Wasp.

Fans can currently see Evangeline reprising her role as Hope in the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The film has been slammed by critics. However, it is racing up the international box office charts - and Evangeline says she is finally understanding her superhero role after playing the character in two previous Ant-Man films and one of the Avengers movies.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: “Hope is an odd enigma for me. The truth is that I find it harder to know and understand Hope than any other character I’ve ever played before.

“I have one word now that’s become my anchor to help me when I feel a bit lost with her, And [that word] is the bullet.

“She cuts right through things and she’s always going to drive right to the heart of whatever is going on. So that one word just helps anchor me. She’s changed so much over the three films that I’ve often found myself a bit lost and uncertain that I’m really clear on who she is.”
