Tottenham may be sued over Solomon transfer with ex-Fulham star set for medical

Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of further strengthening their squad - even if their latest signing could yet land them in court.

As the speculation rages over whether Harry Kane will stick or twist in north London, new manger Ange Postecoglou has set about adding reinforcements regardless. Dejan Kulusevski has signed a permanent deal to come from Juventus after his loan stint last year, and James Maddison has signed from Leicester City for a £40 million fee.

And now Manor Solomon is set to undergo a medical ahead of a four year deal this week, having impressed on loan at Fulham last season. As an added bonus, it won't set Daniel Levy back any money in transfer funds, with the 23-year-old's contract at Shakhtar Donetsk having expired.

But all may not be as straightforward as it seems. According to Sky Sports, the Ukrainian club are incensed about a FIFA ruling which has permitted players to suspend their contracts amid the Russian invasion.

Solomon's contract at Shaktar was initially set to run until December 2023, meaning Spurs would have been liable for a sizeable fee. But with FIFA opting to extend their regulation, the Israeli international can now leave for nothing.

The current Ukrainian Premier League champions are now set to contest matters, feeling they have missed out on valuable funds on a player who they were prepared to sell.

Indeed, earlier this month Shakhtar chief executive Sergei Palkin warned Spurs that they would face legal action if they proceeded to sign their now former player for free: "I contacted Solomon and his agent and invited him back to our club," he told ESPN.

"I said 'you can play all the games in Champions League, you will be in the starting eleven' but he doesn't want to move and I believe he will stay in England. Finally, where he will go, I don't know. In any case, if you go to Tottenham, we will deal with Tottenham in court in this case. Everything comes to a simple situation: it sounds like unjust enrichment.

"Can you imagine, we pay big money for this player and finally Tottenham receives him for free? It is not fair in respect of our club. We will definitely go to court and we will fight for ourselves."
