Simon Rimmer was replaced on Sunday Brunch today as he took the week off following his father's death.

Joining Tim Lovejoy instead on the Channel 4 show was Miquita Oliver - but the show was struck by another family emergency, prompting the chef filling in for Simon to pull out.

This sparked a last minute phone call from TV bosses to Tim, asking him to chef on the show.

Announcing his co-host today, Simon said: "Miquita Oliver is here. As you may know, Simon [Rimmer] has stepped away from the show this week. We're sending him our love."

The pair were joined by guests Peter Andre, Ellie Taylor, Judge Rinder, Nick Mohammed, Bridget Christie and Olivia Dean in the studio today and after chatting, turned to the food being offered up on the show.

Miquita announced: "Now Georgina Hagan was due to cook for Simon this week but sadly she's had a family emergency so Tim is cooking! Shall I call you chef Tim today?"

"Chef Lovejoy," Tim replied.

Miquita said: "Chef Lovejoy, what are you making?"

"Well, it was weird cos last night I got the text going, 'Can you cook tomorrow on the show?' [and I was like], 'Really???' Yeah I am! So I'm doing Georgina's recipes," he said.

"Oh right, so you're taking on quite a big chef's recipes then!" Miquita exclaimed.

Tim went on to begin to prepare his first dish - roast beetroot, lentils and walnut salad.

It comes after Simon announced last week that he was left heartbroken over the death of his "fighter" father.

He told his followers of the sad news on twitter this afternoon following Peter's passing aged 89.

The Channel 4 favourite wrote alongside a photo of the pair of them: "It’s with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my hero, my dad Peter."

Simon previously revealed that he was just nine-years-old when dad Peter was diagnosed with cancer and initially told that he had very little chance of survival.

He wrote last year: "Two heart operations, two lots of cancer. He’s a fighter. He’s the smartest, most gentle human being. Love you dad see you later."

Back in 2020, Simon opened up about his dad's health battles in a poignant post for Peter's 87th birthday. The chef told Mind Map about his dad's battle and called him a "strong" man.

He said: "As I look back, to my childhood I remember being nine-years-old and my dad being diagnosed with cancer and was told he had very little chance of survival – he’s now 84 and still going strong!

"I remember my dad being a very strong human being and I remember him using that when he was fighting his illness – he had the power of positivity and mental agility and that always stuck with me."
