Coronation Street star Sam Aston's wife has suffered a heartbreaking second miscarriage.

Trainee midwife Briony, 27, revealed the devastating news on Instagram in the "interest of breaking taboo."

Posting candidly, she said: "This is a difficult thing to share, but in the interest of breaking the taboo, I'm miscarrying again, the second time in four months...it's heartbreaking and it's unfair, BUT I'm not seeking sympathy, I feel well supported and want others to feel supported too.

"And that's why I wanted to post this today, because having people you can talk to and receiving comfort from those who have been through something similar makes the world of difference."

Briony explained she and Sam, 30, had told those closest to them to about her pregnancies, particularly because she would need their support if the worst happened.

She continued: "We'd told close friends and family about both pregnancies, because I knew that, for me, I would want support from those people if it wasn't meant to last. But I wouldn't have been so open had I not heard from other women about the babies they lost and their stories.

"So thank you to all the women before me who have shared their stories and talked about their babies, it makes processing this a lot easier, and I don't feel alone at all.

"In fact I feel the opposite of alone, I feel held and heard and I hope that by continuing these difficult conversations about miscarriage and pregnancy loss we open the door for others who will sadly experience loss too."

Sam and his wife have two children, daughter Daisy who was born last May and son, Sonny, two.

Daisy was welcomed into the world following a home birth as Sam explained he'd just put the dinner on before she arrived.

Speaking to to OK! Magazine he said he was getting ready to sit down and watch the game when he heard noises upstairs.

"It all happened so fast," he explained. We’d just had some tea and then I put the telly on to watch some football, but then all of a sudden I heard Briony upstairs.

“I could tell Briony’s contractions were coming thick and fast, so I was called the midwife and was like, ‘Quick you need to get here now!’”

Briony chipped in: “I was mooing! I was in the shower but I had to get out as the birthing pool was filling up so slowly. Sam and my dad, who came to watch Sonny, were just running around with kettles filling up the pool."
