Liverpool have identified RB Leipzig Dominik Szoboszlai as a major target this summer and hold what could be a priceless advantage in the race for the midfielder.

The Reds want to add more new faces to the centre of the park following Alexis Mac Allister’s arrival from Brighton earlier this month. The Argentine arrived for £45m and became Jurgen Klopp’s first signing of the window.

More work certainly needs to be done before deadline day with a whole host of potential recruits having been identified. Manu Kone, Khephren Thuram and Gabri Veiga are all among the names to have been bandied about.

Leipzig playmaker Szoboszlai has also been identified as a potential option. It is reported that the Reds are exploring a move for the 22-year-old and have already met with his representatives.

He has a €70million (£60.5million) release clause in his contract at the Red Bull Arena, with some reports suggesting that would only be valid until the coming weekend. Szoboszlai is high up on Liverpool’s list of targets but it is suggested that there is an acceptance at Anfield that a deal would be difficult to do.

Newcastle have also been linked with a move for the Hungarian international but as it stands they are focusing on a move for AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali. Liverpool could edge themselves ahead in any race for Szoboszlai given their relationship with his current employers.

The Reds and Leipzig have regularly conducted business. Liverpool agreed a deal to sign midfielder Naby Keita in August 2017.

Favourable terms were found between the two sides, with the Guinean midfielder not completing his switch for another season. Elsewhere, French defender Ibrahima Konate sealed a switch to Anfield in May 2021 - a transfer being announced even before the window had officially opened.

Talks between the two clubs are currently ongoing regarding another transfer. Portuguese youngster Fabio Carvalho is set to sign for the German side on a season-long loan - although that deal not being related to Szoboszlai’s potential switch to Anfield.

It is not just with Leipzig that Liverpool have a productive relationship. They have also conducted business with another of the clubs under the Red Bull umbrella - Red Bull Salzburg.

Japanese international Takumi Minamino signed for the Reds midway throughout the 2019/20 campaign. He went on to score 14 goals in 55 appearances before he left for French side Monaco.

It is also not just transfers that Leipzig and Liverpool have seen eye-to-eye on. The Reds also visited Germany to get an insight into Leipzig’s training ground as they were designing their own facility.
