Actor John Barrowman said he was "kicked out" of a restaurant just minutes after he arrived with his friend.

The British-American Doctor Who and Torchwood star said he was trying to have dinner in one of several restaurants inside the McMenamins Elks Temple building in Tacoma, Washington, USA.

In a post on Instagram the baffled star told his 1.4 million followers that the pair had been “kicked out” of the restaurant by a member of staff.

The 56-year-old, who is best known for portraying Captain Jack Harkness, and Malcolm Merlyn in TV shows Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Flash, was in the city ahead of a convention in the nearby town of Puyallup.

He told fans: “Not a very good impression @mcmenaminsbeer. We were basically escorted out and told politely you can’t eat here. #Tacoma Jb,” the Daily Record reports.

He continued: “We’re at McMenamins Elks temple... and basically in a polite way, the gentleman guided us out of one restaurant and took us into another and kind of persuaded us not to come in.”

John then moved the camera to show his friend who claimed that they “kicked us out” before ending the video: “So Tacoma... not a good recommendation. McMenamins...McNot.”

Fans rushed to support the actor following the strange ordeal. One penned: “I’m so sorry that this has happened to you John as you’re a legend on the off camera."

Another said: "I’m sorry they did that John. Thank you for being an amazing celebrity today! It was great meeting you!"

A third wrote: "I am so sorry that happened to you both. Not usual for this area of WA. Hopefully you found a good place to eat. I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow."

A spokesperson for the restaurant then commented on the video: "Oh no! So sorry to hear this happened! We’ll shoot you a DM and help get to the bottom of this."
