Eerie photographs reveal an abandoned church surrounded by skeletal remains and handmade crosses that could be the spookiest pics you are likely to see.

Like a scene from a Cabin in the Woods style horror movie, one image captured shows the run-down exterior of the church with a full animal skeleton seen nearby in a body of murky water.

Another photograph from this Mississippi location in the Deep South of the US captured handmade crosses adorned by animal remains at its feet.

Photographer Brendon Burton, 28, from Portland, United States explored this spooky abandoned Presbyterian Church in a ghost town in the Mississippi Delta region of the United States.

These chilling photographs were taken by Brendon using a Fuji GFX 50sii and a DJI Mavic 2 drone while travelling with friends to find remote and fascinating locations to explore throughout the southern states of the United States.

Morbid images were taken of skeletal remains on the land and a mysterious sign with the word ‘hypocrite’ on it, but Brendon’s favourite part of his exploration were the various handmade crosses scattered across the land and piles of roadkill thrown in the nearest forest, increasing the questions relating to the history of the land.

The land seemed to have been abandoned in the 1980s, but before this there was an active Presbyterian Church on-site which now contains mysterious and ominous animal skeletal remains, homemade crosses, and Methodist church signs left to rot.

Brendon was only in the area for a few hours as he didn’t want to disturb the peace of the area, but in that time he had found so many disturbing and eerie discoveries that could easily be linked to the supernatural or occult, if you’re brave enough to explore for yourself.

“I was on a road trip through the Southern States with some friends exploring the most remote areas we could get to,” he said.

“My main focus artistically is documenting the isolated corners of North America as I travel all over trying to find strange and abandoned places.

“There were various handmade crosses placed in the church and a pile of roadkill thrown in the forest near it. Not the best thing to find but definitely the strangest.

“I’m deeply fascinated with the untold story side of these locations.

“I feel like it’s semi-archaeological to explore and document these forgotten places. I usually end up leaving with more questions than answers, but the story you can construct from the experience is so valuable to me.”
