EasyJet and BA 'profiteering' with price hikes of up to 300%, survey finds
Holidaymakers are facing sky-high mark-ups on in-flight snacks.
Some goodies are 300% dearer, our price survey found.
The biggest hike is on a 90g pack of Naked Japanese Style Chicken Flavour Noodles, which costs £1.50 at Sainsbury’s but £5 on a British Airways flight. EasyJet slaps a similar mark-up on a 41.5g KitKat that is 70p at Tesco – hiking it 214% to £2.20.
On TUI, a 45g pack of Jacob’s Mini Cheddars Original Crisps that is £1 at Sainsbury’s costs £2.50 – up 150%. And Jet2 charges a £3 for a 90g pack of Pot Noodles Chicken and Mushroom while the same item at Asda costs just 90p – a hike of 233%.
Analysts Hargeaves Lansdown said: “These in-flight add-ons are highly lucrative for airlines.”
Drunk easyJet passenger groped female flight attendant and tried to trip anotherConsumer champion Martyn James added: “This is blatant profiteering from a captive audience.”
EasyJet said “comparing supermarket prices with onboard airline prices is not comparing like with like”.
BA, Jet2 and TUI did not respond to requests for comment.
