Evercore Heroes is the first title from new development studio Vela Games, and Mirror Gaming was invited to a preview of the upcoming competitive PvE session-based game.

Evercore Heroes will be a free-to-play title, which has yet to get a confirmed release date, but there is a Evercore Heroes closed beta which began this week. However, players who have pre-ordered either the Founder or Legend editions of the game can access the beta.

Despite being PvE, you’re still pitted against other teams compete for the best score when fighting through rounds of mobs in order to advance. This League of Legends-esque title utilises a top-down third-person point of view, something which may be unfamiliar to those who aren’t into the MOBA genre of games. You select from a range of characters and jump straight into a game with three other teammates, where you go head-to-head with three other teams.

There are currently 16 heroes across three different classes within Evercore Heroes, including tank, damage and support. All of these heroes have a unique set of skills in order to help you power through each game.

Each round has a new objective, with the main premise being to collect as many points as possible or complete a task in the shortest amount of time in order to come out on top. The team with the lowest score will be eliminated from the game and are immediately able to queue into another.

After two rounds, the final two teams must compete in a head-to-head challenge to determine the winner of the game. As of now, there are two available, a boss battle against Thrashclaw, a giant troll, or a battle in order to protect Whiskerwood Village by fending off monsters.

There's a great mechanic that allows you to tackle smaller mobs enroute to larger missions which grant you gold, ensuring every game is different. You can then spend the gold at the store to pick up different combinations of items which grant you higher stats.

Evercore Heroes looks gorgeous. It runs in Unreal Engine 5 and incorporates just the right amount of colour and whimsy to make it feel magical, which is very much in tune with the theme and story. The environments are fascinating. and there's plenty of room within games to allow you to take it all in, no matter which map you’re playing on.

The style and feel of Evercore Heroes is very similar to League of Legends, particularly in terms of how it looks. But in comparison, Evercore Heroes is far less stressful to play.

Any long-term League of Legends player will attest that it can be extremely hectic and frustrating at points. Evercore Heroes manages to replicate the familiar feel of League, whether that be in the form of environment, heroes or controls, without having to suffer through the stress that's so often associated with Riot's esports behemoth. And that is absolutely grand.
