Timo Werner, like so many expensive Chelsea signings that have gone before him, never really settled into life at Stamford Bridge and lasted just two years before calling it quits.

There were positive moments, but for large portions of that two-year stint, Werner was the subject of relentless mocking and ridicule on social media due to some of his profligate finishing. One thing the Germany international certainly didn't do is justify his £53million price tag.

Chelsea went to great lengths to sign Werner from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, who he has since rejoined and even tried to force through the departures of seven players to generate the funds to wrap up the deal. Mirror Football has analysed how those seven have fared since their respective exits.

Pedro's post-Chelsea career is a controversial one.

Having initially left the Blues for Serie A giants AS Roma, a falling out with manager Paulo Fonseca put his future in doubt before he was omitted from new boss Jose Mourinho's squad for pre-season fixtures.

As a result, he joined Roma's most fierce rivals Lazio and is now just one of three people to score for both sides in the Derby della Capitale.

Willian

Initially left Chelsea in the summer of 2020 to join London rivals Arsenal, where things went just about as bad as they possibly could have.

That stint ended with Willian and the club mutually agreeing to terminate his contract so that he could return to his home country of Brazil. A miserable spell at boyhood club Corinthians soon followed, where he again lasted 12 months before threats from fans inspired his exit.

He is now back in the capital at Chelsea's closest rivals Fulham, where he has exceeded expectations under boss Marco Silva.

Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso may have been transfer listed to try and compensate for the money spent on Werner, but the Spanish left-back didn't actually leave that summer.

He held on until the summer of 2022 before opting to put pen to paper on a deal with Barcelona.

Alonso's move to the Camp Nou was the subject of legal complaints from two of his former sides AD Union Adarve and Bolton, who both claimed to FIFA that they were owed part of his transfer fee.

Jorginho

Similarly to Alonso, Jorginho was offered up to clubs when Werner joined but ironically ended up outlasting the German at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian didn't depart Stamford Bridge until January of 2023 when he followed in the footsteps of Willian to join enemies Arsenal.

it has to be said, Jorginho has already fared significantly better at the Emirates than Willian ever did.

Kurt Zouma

While Zouma couldn't quite match Jorginho and claim to have outlasted Werner, he did spend a year alongside the forward at Chelsea before being sold to West Ham in August 2021.

So raised their eyebrows at the fee the Hammers forked out on the Frenchman at the time, but a £30m deal now looks to be somewhat of a bargain.

Zouma is one of the first names on the team sheet at the London Stadium, a privilege he never had at Chelsea and while off-field issues have marred his time with West Ham, he has drastically improved on the pitch as a result of regular game time.

Ross Barkley

Barkley outlasted Werner by a mere matter of days, with the former Everton man agreeing to call time on his Chelsea stay in late August of last year.

He joined Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice soon after, but less than one year into his south of France stay it has already been confirmed that Barkley has left and as things stand is a free agent.

Michy Batshuayi

One of European football's great journeymen, Batshuayi spent six years at Chelsea, during which time he was sent on loan five times before eventually leaving for Fenerbahce.

He remains with the Turkish giants to this day.
