Bebe Rexha was emotional as she made her return to the stage after sustaining a gruesome injury when she got hit in the face with a phone while performing on stage.

The 33-year-old singer was performing in New York City last week when an unprovoked attack prompted her to fall to her knees in pain. She has since unveiled the extent of her injury, which included a nasty black eye and needing stitches.

A spokesperson for the New York City Police Department later confirmed to The Mirror that Nicolas Malvagna, 27, had been arrested and charged with assault.

But Bebe proved that show must go on, as she took to the stage at The Fillmore in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, where she attempted to make light of the situation.

As the show drew to a close, she joked: "No phones in the face, thank God."

The I'm Good hitmaker then sang her tune "In the Name of Love" but was forced to stop as she was overcome with emotion in front of the cheering crowds.

It's no surprise given what Bebe has been through in the last week, which saw her being attacked by a supposed fan who mentioned he threw the phone at her "because it would be funny".

"I was trying to see if I could hit her with the phone at the end of the show because it would be funny," he said, according to Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

While showing her injuries, Bebe later assured fans she was doing well on social media.

Meanwhile, in a statement from the New York City Police Department, it was said: "On Sunday, June 18, 2023 at approximately 2200 hours, police were notified of an assault that occurred at the concert space of Pier 17 located at 89 South Street, within the confines of the 1st Precinct.

"A preliminary investigation on scene determined that a 27-year-old male intentionally threw a cell phone at a 33-year-old female performer on stage, striking her about the face.

"The individual was taken into custody on scene and removed to the 1st Precinct for arrest processing. The aided female was removed by EMS to an area hospital in stable condition," they said in a statement.

The spokesperson added: "Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following individual has been arrested and charged on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at 2254 hours within the confines of the 1 Precinct."
