Father Ted star engaged to 'his soulmate' after sweet proposal
Father Ted star Joe Rooney is engaged.
Joe, who played Father Damo on the iconic Channel 4 comedy series, announced he had popped the question to his girlfriend Nerea.
“We are engaged!” he wrote on Instagram, revealing the news to his followers.
“I’m so happy to have met Nerea. She is kind, smart and beautiful and without doubt my soulmate. I’m looking forward to sharing my life with her,” Joe added.
Nerea also announced the news on Instagram, as she showed her followers her stunning engagement ring and heaped praise on her new fiancé.

Joe and Nerea shared the happy news on social media“It's official… We are engaged! I couldn't wish for a kinder, funnier, better human to both share my life and heart with,” she wrote.
“Thank you for showing me what true love is! I love you forever my @joerooneycomedian.”
The happy couple were inundated with messages of congratulations from their friends and followers on social media.
“Congratulations on your engagement, Joe!!!” one commented, as another added: “I'm glad you found love.”

His character smoked, played football and loved Oasis, and he even persuaded Father Dougal to get his ear pierced, much to Father Ted’s dismay.
During lockdown, Joe quit comedy and went back to education, studying English literature, and recently finished his course.
