A 20-year-old Brit who went missing in the Netherlands has been found dead in a ditch.

Thomas Delafay, also known as Taiga Akabane, had been treated abeing treated as a "high risk missing person" after he went missing while in Holland - where he and his boyfriend were visiting a friend.

Duth police launched a search operation to track down the 20-year-old "fun and outgoing" young man, but tragically they found his body in a ditch close to where he was last seen on Saturday.

He was last seen at Dijklander Hospital - but it's believed that he never entered after arriving.

Thomas went missing after suffering a reported psychotic break and experiencing hallucinations, according to his sister Holly Delafay.

Taking to Facebook, Holly shared her grief, saying her sould was "crushed" and her heart "broken".

Her post continued: "We will miss you so much, I don't know what to do with my life now that you're not in it. I feel so lost without my baby brother.

"You mean the absolute world to me and I'm so lost and broken without you. You're my best friend. I love you so so much. Fly high and rest easy baby bro."

She went on to thank everyone who helped by sharing posts about Thomas's disappearance.

She said: "We want to thank everyone who helped to find my brother and those who did there upmost and went above and beyond to offer their help and resources to find him. We love you all so so much.".

The Dutch police also shared a statement, sharing their condolences to the family.

In the statement they said they don't believe that Thomas's death was caused by a crime, but that an investigation is underway to give the family answers over their loved one's last hours.

The police said on Twitter: "This morning we found a deceased person in a ditch on the Maelsonstraat in Hoorn. Investigation into the identity shows that it concerns the previously missing Thomas (Taiga).

Before the tragic discovery Holly told Plymouth Live her brother was a "fun and outgoing person". Holly said that it was not thought her brother is in possession of his passport, his phone or any money.

In a statement, she said: "Thomas is a fun and outgoing person who enjoys life and lives it to the full and is well loved by everyone who knows him. He is a popular man with a big family and a 14 month old nephew who all adore him and miss him loads.

"Tom, if you can see or hear this, we are all super worried about you and we all miss you so so much. Please get in touch with somebody, anybody.

"You're not in any trouble, we all just want you back safe. Contact the police or hospital or anyone who can take you to the police so we can get you back home and safe for us all. And to everyone who sees this, please help me get my brother home."

A statement from Dutch police reads: "The 20-year-old Taiga (Thomas) has been missing from Hoorn since June 11, 2023. He was last seen in Dijklander Ziekenhuis, Hoorn.

"He has left in the unknown direction. He can be recognised by his purple hair, short at the sides and long on top. He was wearing a black hoodie with letters all over, a black pants and black shoes. He has a small posture."
