Locksmith's 'terrifying' method to grab keys locked in car makes viewers 'panic'

A locksmith has revealed his "tricks of the trade" to rescue a set of keys locked in a car - but his technique is not for the faint-hearted.

Hannah Kirkhouse, 36 and Liam, 42, from London, were called out to a job in the Midlands area, which presented the perfect opportunity to film this hilarious clip.

It was the first time Liam tried the manoeuvre he managed to pull off - and if the keys had not been in the back of the van, he would have been trapped there.

In the video, Liam - who works for auto locksmith firm We've Got The Key Ltd - can be seen entering the front of the van and, after putting the passenger seat up, he shows his impressive flexibility as he slides underneath the seat headfirst.

While upright, he manages to lie on his back and then slowly sliding through the small gap between the floor of the van and the back of the seat.

He can be seen readjusting himself a few times while others nearby repeatedly ask him if he is doing well.

Eventually, he manages to grab the keys that were locked in the back of the car and open the rear door, much to the driver's delight.

Hannah said: "Me and Liam work for a firm as locksmiths - I was down doing some training with him when we came across this job.

"The keys were locked in the back with high security locks. Rather than drill the slam lock out and cause damage we decided to post him through the van bulk head and film it for giggles.

"He hadn't done it before, although we were aware of the gap from a previous job, and we were awaiting another job to come up to try it."

The video was posted on TikTok by Hannah, who wrote: "Liam the locksmith used his talents to retrieve [the keys]," alongside two crying with laughter emojis.

It was seen by thousands of people with some viewers left shocked by the man's flexibility and skills.

One wrote: "My claustrophobia would never allow me to do this."

Another added: "I had a panic attack just watching this."

One more person said: "That is beyond terrifying. I can cope fine in small spaces but that is literally my nightmare."

If you are locked out of your vehicle and realise that you left your keys inside, the RAC advises you should no make any rushed decisions - and first check if you have a spare key, which may be the easiest solution.

Another solution is to call your breakdown provider or a locksmith who can use their professional skills to help.

The RAC adds that the emergency services should only be called in case you find yourself in a hazardous situation and either you, your passengers or pets are in immediate danger - for example if someone is trapped in car on a hot day or a person needing medical assistance is stuck inside.
