Romeo Beckham leaves dad David's team for permanent Premier League transfer

Romeo Beckham has signed a one-year deal with Premier League side Brentford B, completing a permanent exit from the MLS side owned by his dad David.

The 20-year-old initially joined Brentford on loan from Inter Miami in January and featured for their B team, with the winger part of the squad that won the Premier League Cup. And after making 15 appearances for Brentford B, he has made a permanent switch to West London.

"We added Romeo to our squad in January and he's been fantastic for the group," Brentford B boss Neil MacFarlane told club media. "He's had a terrific end to the season in terms of his recent match against Manchester City where he showed what he's learned during his loan with us.

"We've continued to develop him in and out of possession and we look forward to him coming back in good spirits to continue working with him next season." Beckham, meanwhile, said he has "loved every second" of his time at Brentford.

"It's the best feeling, honestly," he said. "I'm so excited. They've welcomed me from day one, I've loved every second of it.

"It's obviously a different experience to Miami. [In the Premier League Cup], it's a great experience being able to play against men's teams."

After Beckham initially joined on loan in January, Brentford boss Thomas Frank urged fans to judge him in his own right and not compare him to his legendary father. "Romeo is a very good player, of course he has a name that is pretty worldwide, and big," Frank said.

"For Romeo, he is himself, but he of course has a big name. You can't compare [father and son]. He is here for a reason, because we think he is a good player.

"[We are] pleased to see him doing well, pleased to see the performance he had in the last game and when you have players, either permanent or on loan, it is for a reason. It is either for getting the team to perform, or to extend the loan deal and make it a permanent deal, so we just hope that he keeps progressing and makes it very interesting for us."
