The Homebase patio set is perfect for relaxing in the garden

During the summer months, I love nothing more than sitting outside with a cup of tea, watching the dog's potter around the garden, with burgers sizzling on the grill. But last year all of those plans were scuppered by the series of storms that left my glass patio table completely shattered across my lawn.

We’ve been managing with mismatched chairs, and a small table borrowed from my brother, but a new patio set was a necessity as we approached the summer - particularly as we are the ‘host house’ for family gatherings, barbecues and the likes.

We opted for the , which is the cheapest four seater set at Homebase, and over the last 12 months it’s proven so popular, family, friends and even the dogs rush to snap up a seat.

As a family of three with someone popping round for a cuppa most days, a four seater was essential for us - with extra garden chairs and benches rolled out when needed. People who visit always comment on how inviting our garden looks, and whoever ends up having to sit on the ‘spare’ chairs will always jump up to grab an empty chair from the wherever possible. You can’t blame them, either - they’re incredibly comfortable.

The stylish and modern set comes in at a modest , perfect for shading from the sun and enjoying a cocktail over the weekend.

Homebase said: “Whether al fresco dining, sharing a drink or hosting garden parties, this six piece dining set is perfect for all of your special occasions.”

The while the table came flat packed but took very little time and effort to put together. The parasol comes in two parts and takes a bit of welly to put up, but it’s certainly sturdy. The most recent thunderstorm sent our spare parasol into nextdoor’s garden, but the Homebase one stayed firmly put.

The fit neatly on and around our outdoor rug, making an inviting space partially in the sun and partially shaded by the square parasol, perfect for families who, like mine, are half ginger with fair skin, and the other half can’t wait to catch a tan.

The chairs are a great size and are extremely comfortable, reclining slightly for a lounging feel. They’re made with a weather resistant textilene fabric so that your family and friends can truly relax and enjoy themselves, and the table features a toughened glass top so with any luck, we won’t see a repeat of what happened back in last year when the garden looked like a scene from The Wizard of Oz.

Though the chairs are plastic rather than metal, which is , they are sturdy, stackable and lightweight enough to move around with ease. They’re by no means flimsy, and have never torn under the dog’s claws when he’s taken a shine to sitting on them.

The patio is now a real focal point in the garden, looking far more expensive than it really costs. The table can be decorated with potted plants or flowers, becoming a welcoming space to read a book or enjoy a morning cup of tea before the day starts.

It’s one of the cheapest I’ve been able to find online too, with a . The Range have some more , but these often have fold-up chairs which I don’t think have the same level of sophistication or wow-factor.
