Amy Schumer has admitted she tried Ozempic as she criticised celebrities who "lie" about using the diabetes medication to lose weight.

Ozempic is a brand of semaglutide - that mimics a hormone related to appetite regulation - that's advertised for adults with type 2 diabetes to improve blood sugar.

Although the brand states that the once-weekly medicine may also help those taking it with weight loss, it is further noted on its website that it is "not a weight-loss drug".

It is not FDA-approved as treatment for obesity or excess weight in the US, unlike Wegovy - another brand of semaglutide - which is approved in certain instances.

Many celebrities appear to have lost weight with the drug and now Amy, 42, has discussed her own experience with the shots on Watch What Happens Live! with Andy Cohen.

Asked for her thoughts, the comedian shared that she once tried the drug herself, but suggested that she stopped taking the product because it left her feeling "sick".

She explained: "So, like a year ago, I tried it. It's like y'know you try it. And I was one of the people that felt like so sick and like couldn't like play with my son. I was so skinny."

The actor said that her son Gene, now four, would throw a ball at her and indicated that she wasn't able to throw it back, before adding: "You're like 'this isn't liveable for me'."

She however teased that she "immediately invested" because she suspected at the time that "everyone and their mom" would be wanting to try the medication themselves.

Amy seemingly went on to criticise other celebrities for "lying" about how they might have achieved weight loss, adding that she admitted when she had liposuction.

She commented on the Bravo show: "Everybody lying [saying] 'oh smaller portions' like shut the f*** up. You're on Ozempic or one of those things or you got work done."

"Like just stop, be real with the people. When I got lipo, I was like 'I got lipo okay'," she added during the discussion with host Andy on the episode that aired last Thursday.

Ozempic's website states: "[It's] a once-weekly medicine for adults with type 2 diabetes used to improve blood sugar, along with diet and exercise, and reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease."

The website also lists possible side effects, with it stating that the most common ones may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and constipation. It notes that serious side effects may include possible thyroid tumors.
