We all know how important it is to look after ourselves during a scorching heatwave, but we can't forget about our beloved gardens.

However, people need to be aware that not all hot weather TLC can be positive, according to gardening experts.

Sharing their expertise with homeowners, garden gurus have warned that mowing your lawn too soon after a heatwave could ruin your garden and ultimately destroy all your hard work.

The gardening experts at Rated People said: "Extreme heat can quickly kill the healthy-looking lawn you have been maintaining since the start of the year."

They added: "Our main advice is to avoid mowing your grass during extreme heat - so no matter how tempting it might be to get into the garden this weekend, you should give the grass chance to recover from the heat and potential drought before mowing."

The pros advise that people should wait for "cooler temperatures", and if possible, "rainfall".

After analysing the latest Met Office data and the upcoming weather forecast, the gardening gurus recommend UK homeowners wait until 26th June to get their lawnmowers out.

From Sunday 18 June, there is an increasing risk of more "widespread rain or showers", which will likely turn heavy and thundery at times.

The south and west will see a risk of "heavy showers and thunderstorms", whereas further north and east there should be some more reliable conditions.

It's predicted that there'll be warmer than average temperatures overall, with hot days even in wetter areas and continued humidity at night.

As a result, rain will follow this heatwave, and starting from 18th June, there with "a more settled" period.

This means 26th June is the perfect time to mow your lawn following the heatwave.

It will have given your grass time to recover from the stress of extreme heat, as well as allow time for your lawn to soak up any rainfall that is predicted.
