Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty expansion was shown off at the Xbox Showcase and finally has a confirmed release date.

The Xbox Games Showcase was fully of pleasant surprises, one of which was Keanu Reeves showing up to show off a new trailer for the Cyberpunk 2077 's Phantom Liberty expansion. While the expansions price point leaked out ahead of last week's Summer Game Fest Opening Showcase, it was sadly missing from that presentation. Thankfully we didn't have to wait too long to get a look at the new expansion.

However, even with the exciting new trailer at the Xbox Showcase, CD Projekt Red isn't satisfied with that alone and has released a 18-minute developer breakdown with Narrative Director Igor Sarzyński and Senior Communication Manager Paweł Burza breaking down all of the details from the trailer.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty release date

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is launching on September 26, 2023 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Despite the base game launching on PS4 and Xbox One, this expansion won't be available on last-gen platforms – not that we'd recommend playing Cyberpunk 2077 on those platforms anyway considering all of the issues present in those versions caused a lawsuit.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty price and pre-order

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will run players £24.99 / $29.99 / $44.99. The Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty pre-order is available now via GOG, Steam, PlayStation Store and Xbox store. Pre-Orders will get the Quadra Vigilante Pre-Order Bonus car.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty trailer

The Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty trailer shown at the Xbox Game Showcase mainly digs into the plot of the new story expansion. It shows off Solomon Reed (played by Idris Elba) teaming up with V, while also showing off some of the new locales coming to the game with Phantom Liberty.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty new features

Not only does the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libery expansion bring a significant new storylines, missions, and a new area to the game, but the expansion is set to revamp the original game too. With creative director Pawel Sasko telling VGC that virtually no system of the original game has been left untouched, and confirmed that base game owners will receive any changes made to the base game.

Issues that have plagued the game since launch like the dodgy UI, the lacklustre police system, and confusing skill trees have all been reworked for this expansion, as well as giving the game a brand new ending. Meaning if you want to play Cyberpunk 2077 it may be worth waiting on this expansion to drop first. The title was playable at the Summer Game Fest Play Days media event, and impressions so far have been extremely positive, with many members of the press leaving their demos excited for this upcoming expansion.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty characters

The Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion has been described as a 'Spy-Thriller' from CD Projekt Red, and features the return of Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand. The new story has V – still grappling with their mortality from the original game – teaming up with the New United States of America and FIA agent Solomon Reed to rescue NUSA president Rosalind Myers, who has been taken hostage. In return V has been promised a way to save their life.

All of this and more makes the argument for picking Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty over other blockbuster games coming in September like Starfield, Lies of P, and Baldur's Gate 3.
