Rod Stewart has quit America and branded it “toxic”, after his wife Penny Lancaster grew sick of their “nuisance” lifestyle.

The 78-year-old rock icon has even put his £56 million mansion in Beverly Hills on the market, after he complained he no longer has any “privacy”.

The Maggie May hitmaker, who shares two sons - Alastair, 17, and Aiden Patrick, 12 - with wife Penny, has no plans to go back to the US and will stay in their £4 million Essex mansion instead.

Rod and his family returned to the UK in 2016, leaving their stunning European-style mansion in Los Angeles behind, but has no plans to return.

Penny is said to have grown tired of travelling back and forth from the US to the UK, and wants to put all her focus on her dream job as a volunteer police officer where she has been working in London for the last two years.

The leggy model, 52, has also served as a panellist on Loose Women, and no longer wants to deal with the “nuisance” of commuting from Los Angeles to London.

“Penny loves the life she has made away from America and away from LA. She enjoys nothing more than working for the police force,” a source told the publication.

“She also finds traveling to be more of a nuisance than anything and wants to just live her life as a working mom,” they added.

Rod put the Beverly Hills mansion on the market with no plans to buy another mansion in the city, meaning he’ll make a tidy profit from the sale of the estate which he reportedly bought for £10 million in 1991.

He had the 33,000 square foot property designed by architect Richard Landry, and ornate Roman-style columns, wooden floors, marble tiles and crystal chandeliers are featured throughout the home.

The estate also includes a three-storey guesthouse, as well as two gyms and a swimming pool.

Rod, who bought the mansion while married to ex-wife Rachel Hunter, focused on entertainment while designing his Beverly Hills home, and other features include a grand piano, a stunning outdoor seating area, a library, and a huge dining room that can sit 20 guests.

Despite his decision to stay permanently in the UK, it’s understood the musician will keep his home in Palm Beach, where he and his family spend Christmas.
