Zoom calls to the office just got a little more exciting thanks to a new feature debuted by Apple at the company’s annual developer conference in California.

Due out later this year on the company’s Mac desktop and laptop range, the new video conferencing feature in its operating system, called macOS Sonoma, will add a bit of fun to those boring meetings.

Apple says the new Presenter Overlay feature has been introduced to try and tackle a common problem of not being able to see the presenter when they are showcasing a slideshow deck.

And if that’s not enough, the new video conferencing feature will also let you show your support for those presentations or announcements with animations like those already found in the Message app.

Balloons, confetti, and even fireworks will all be available via a simple range of gestures like giving a thumbs up before the animation springs into life without you having to do anything else.

The new feature which will work with apps like Zoom, will be available later this year and is part of a range of new features coming to macOS.

Apple used its developer conference, WWDC, to also detail new enhancements to using widgets, improvements to its Safari browser, and a greater focus on gaming with the launch of Death Standing Director’s Cut.

The software is expected to be available later this autumn.

Along with that new software, the firm has also revealed a new MacBook Air which now gets a 15.3-inch display.

“macOS is the heart of the Mac, and with Sonoma, we’re making it even more delightful and productive to use,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “We think users are going to love macOS Sonoma and the new ways it enables them to personalize with widgets and stunning new screen savers, see new levels of gaming performance, and gain powerful productivity for video conferencing and browsing with Safari.”
