Warner Brothers Studio has responded to claims it is hoping to expand the Harry Potter film franchise with a new project.

It was reported on Wednesday that senior executives had already started developing the hit West End show, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The potential project would see the iconic show produced almost two decades after Harry, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger saved the wizarding world.

It would see the group joined by a new generation of wizards who have just arrived at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

But the studio has now claimed that such reports are false - unfortunately for the franchise's loyal following.

Speaking about turning the play into movies, an insider had earlier claimed: "Warner Bros are currently looking at how to bring The Cursed Child to the big screen.

"It has been in their sights since the play proved to be so popular in the West End."

The studio was busy with the Fantastic Beasts franchise and was said to have put the Cursed Child idea on hold.

"At the moment it is in very formative stages and they are discussing the next steps to move it forward," the source added to The Sun.

However, a Warner Bros. Discovery spokesperson has since told the Mirror: "The report is false."

There were hopes lead star Daniel Radcliffe was ready to return to the possible project.

Daniel, who went on to have a successful career in Hollywood, previously said he has no plans to reprise his role as Harry.

He also has no interest in playing the character in the film version of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

In an interview withThe New York Times, Daniel said he knows it isn’t the answer fans would want to hear – but he’s more interested in taking on “weird” new film roles than going back in time.

He explained: “This isn’t the answer that anybody’s going to want, but I think I was so able to go back and enjoy it [the recent Harry Potter reunion] because it’s not a part of my day-to-day life anymore.

“I’m getting to a point where I feel like I made it out of Potter OK and I’m really happy with where I am now – going back would be such a massive change to my life.”

“I’m never going to say never,” he teased. “The Star Wars guys had like 30, 40 years before they went back. For me, it’s only been 10. It’s not something I’m really interested in doing right now.”

Harry Potter’s original franchise came to an end back in 2011 with The Deathly Hallows II.

Since then, fans have been given three film prequels with the Fantastic Beasts movies, though they haven’t achieved the same level of critical or commercial success.
