Rihanna's Super Bowl pregnancy announcement was 'unplanned' and 'last minute'

Rihanna's iconic Super Bowl pregnancy announcement was 'unplanned' and 'last minute', according to one of the show's choreographers.

The Diamond singer, 34, delivered a show-stopping set in a revealing red jumpsuit, confirming her second pregnancy nine months after the birth of her son.

But the entire ordeal was supposed to remain under wraps, that was until the chart-topping hitmaker's bump was "really showing".

The brains behind the show, choreographer Parris Goebel has now broken her silence, saying they had to change up their ideas at the "last minute".

Speaking on ABC's GMA3 this morning, she explained: "Honestly, she didn't really know if she was going to be showing or not."

Rihanna kicked off her live performance suspended high above the stadium while an army of dancers dressed in white gathered beneath her.

Showing off a pronounced baby bump at the beginning of the performance, she rubbed her hand over her stomach while launching into a selection of hits from her catalogue.

Known professionally as Parris, the Emmy Award-winning choreographer said that Rihanna was "not planning to make a reveal at all".

"She was going to maybe wear something baggy that didn't really show and then leading up to the show we were just like 'oh she's really showing'," she explained.

Paris added: "So last minute, we decided to embrace it and share it with the world."

The revelations come after Rihanna broke her silence on the show, telling heartbroken fans she has no "updates" on any upcoming new music.

Her last studio album, Anti, was released in January 2016.

"They (the fans) are waiting. I am excited to actually put new music out but I don’t have any updates for you on that yet," Rihanna admitted.

Asked by host Michael Strahan if she was able to remain relaxed about performing in front of such huge audiences, she replied: "I have not been able to do that.

"Still, to this day, the camera represents so many people, a huge audience. And the camera at a Super Bowl is one of the biggest audiences."

Rihanna returned to music last year with the single Lift Me Up, recorded for the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Referring to its director, she said: "Ryan Coogler, he reached out to me and he asked if I would be interested in doing a song for the film.

"When I saw the film, I felt like, this is so powerful. The sense of motherhood and how much strength that embodies. I felt that when I watched the film and it hit me."
