Arsenal are one of a number of clubs eyeing Real Madrid star Marco Asensio.

The Gunners are expected to be busy in the upcoming summer transfer window as they attempt to build on a second-placed finish in the Premier League. They have already been linked with an array of players ahead of the window opening.

One name that could be considered is Real Madrid winger Asensio. The Spaniard is set to become one of the most sought-after free agents in world football in the summer with his contract set to expire next month.

According to Onda Cero, Arsenal are considering a swoop for Asensio to add to their current attacking options. The Gunners are not the only club interested in making a move for him this summer though.

It is suggested that both PSG and AC Milan would be both willing to offer him a lucrative deal, whilst Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Aston Villa have reportedly contacted him regarding a move to Villa Park.

A switch to the Emirates would see Asensio reunited with one of his former Real Madrid teammates in the form of Martin Odegaard. The latter was officially a Madrid player between 2015 and 2021 but was sent out on four separate loan spells.

Odegaard made 11 appearances in all for Los Blancos’ first team before he joined Arsenal on a permanent deal. He has also recently been linked with a move which could scupper any chances of a reunion in North London.

French giants PSG were credited with an interest following a stunning season. It is suggested that Arsenal will rebuff any attempts to sign him, with Mikel Arteta keen for the midfielder to play a key role again next season.

Odegaard is also reported to be happy in North London. Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has in the meantime weighed in on Asensio’s future and is hopeful of him staying at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Speaking at the weekend, he said: "I don’t know anything about Asensio, just like I don’t know about others like Nacho. It’ll all be clarified in the coming weeks.

"I would be sad if they left because they have been and are important players for us. Whatever they decide, we’ll plan accordingly."

Asensio, 27, made 50 appearances for Real throughout the campaign in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists. Any move would bring to an end a trophy-laden spell with the Spanish club.

He has won three Champions Leagues, three LaLiga titles, the Copa del Rey and a whole host of other trophies.
