A swarm of 'aggressive' bees attacked two men and a dog leaving the terrified pet needing 800 stingers removed.

Tommy Baker was working in his garden when he stumbled across the hive in California, US.

He and his neighbour Bryan Engen decided it was small enough to remove after watching YouTube videos and set about getting rid of it.

But before long, they were under attack - and it also cost the dog his life.

The men run for a golf cart and try to drive away with the bees hot on their heels.

But two-year-old Pitbull-Mastiff Chance was quickly surrounded by the angry insects.

He tried to escape but found his path blocked before eventually slammed his body into the fence until the latching broke and ran.

He was rushed to the vets by his owner and they cared for him after his lucky escape.

"We were getting ready to replace our fence here and the fence guy came out took a look at it and we noticed we had a bee hive," Mr Baker told ABC news.

"It got very intense. It got to the point I could not see very far in front of me there were so many bees just swirling around.

"They followed me all the way around the block and this is a big block up here it's probably a mile."

A GoFundMe page was created to help with the cost of the dog's treatment.

"Over 800 stingers were removed from 1 side of his body. He is still recovering and we don’t know if he will make it. Vet bills are crazy and we are hoping he will pull through.

"Chance received a blood transfusion this evening and is showing signs of improvement.

"He’s wagging his tail and he’s much more alert. He’s still not out of the woods.

"Doctors are monitoring him closely and checking his blood to see if a second transfusion will be needed. Chance is so strong and fighting so hard. Thank You for all the support. We’re praying for him to get through this so we can bring him home.

"Will continue to post updates. We can’t thank everyone enough for all the love."
