Manchester City's leading lights will pocket seven-figure bonuses if they land the treble - considerably more than some of their team-mates

Pep Guardiola's side edged closer to the historic achievement as they hammered Real Madrid at the Etihad to make a second Champions League final in three seasons. The Premier League can be wrapped up this weekend with the FA Cup final to come in a matter of weeks.

City could become just the second English team to land the historic treble, emulating Manchester United in 1999. Squad members at the club have bespoke bonuses written into their contracts rather than the traditional method, which would see a pot of money divided between the players.

The top performers will earn bigger amounts reflecting their importance and contributions. Kevin De Bruyne had a £1m bonus written into his previous contract, but he has since signed improved terms which could mean a greater bonus. Other stars are likely to receive a similar amount, as per the Telegraph.

Those individuals can still expect to earn anything from £500k to £1m if City do complete the treble over the coming weeks. The Manchester outfit will receive €20m if they can overcome Inter Milan in Istanbul on June 10, which adds onto the bonuses they've already earned for making the final.

Guardiola has been quizzed on the possibility of winning the treble and said: "Let me win the first two. In the Premier League we are close. We know we need one more game and I would say we play against our neighbours [Manchester United] and against an Italian team [Internazionale] in the finals.

"The season is really, really good, now we have to lift it. We are close and of course we are going to try. We are there, we can think about it, we can visualise it. We are three games away. One each of the competitions, we can do it."

The Catalan has previously claimed the treble back in 2009 when he was in charge of Barcelona. His last European Cup success came with the Spanish giants in 2011, but he's endured a host of near misses since. Two years ago he led City to their only final, losing 1-0 to Chelsea in Porto.

A fifth league title in six years can be secured this weekend. Arsenal's recent collapse has put City in the driving seat and a defeat for the Gunners on Saturday or a win for Guardiola's men on Sunday will secure the title.

The FA Cup has proved to be the domestic trophy that Guardiola has found most difficult to win, claiming it just once, which was back in 2019 when City complete a unique domestic treble, thrashing Watford in the final.
