AC Milan face a mountain to climb on Tuesday night, with their away tie against Inter in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final at San Siro.

The first-leg was won through first-half dominance from Inter, with early goals from Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan sealing a resounding victory which could have been far greater. Inter looked unstoppable during the early exchanges of last week's first-leg and are now well placed to qualify for their first Champions League final since winning in 2010.

However, their failure to build a bigger lead heading into the second leg may be a source of regret for Simone Inzaghi's side, with a two goal deficit having been overcome on multiple occasions in recent years at this stage of the competition. Most famously, both Liverpool and Tottenham overturned three goal deficits to reach the 2019 final in Madrid.

Having played in front of a home crowd at San Siro last week, Milan will have to face the away leg against a crowd who will be fervently backing Inter. They will also come into the match with stern criticism coming from their ultras, with a dressing down coming from the club's most ardent supporters following a 2-0 loss to Spezia at the weekend.

Inter, meanwhile, beat Sassuolo 4-2 at San Siro, with Romelu Lukaku staking his claim for a starting berth in this week's second leg with a brace.

Team news:

Ismael Bennacer has been ruled out for the rest of the season after an injury in the first leg, with Rade Krunic and Junior Messias also set to miss out amid a midfield injury crisis for Stefano Pioli. However, Rafael Leao did return to training on Sunday and is on track to return for the second leg.

Inter, meanwhile, remain without long-term absentee Milan Skriniar as Joaquin Correa could also miss out following a knock.
