The Normal People star, 27, hoped to give his mum “a little bit of a lift” last month following his Olivier Awards success as Dearbhla underwent treatment.

The Irish star's mum said: "So I’ve just finished in the hospital. I’ve to go for an MRI. Date to be confirmed, but that’s okay.

"Bloods done, all still really good numbers so very, very happy about that part and we’ll get to the root of the pain but it’s so wonderful to be cared for by this amazing team."

When she was home, Dearbhla updated followers and admitted she was "less anxious" over the pain because she knows they’ll get to the bottom of it.

"I’m home and feeling less anxious. I know we will get to the root of it, which is really good," she said.

"I've made my sandwich, I’ve lit the fire, I can see my roses and my birds and my tree and this is me.

"I’m now going to settle and I hope for all of you that need to be heard that you get heard, that would be my hope for us all – that our voices are heard and if your voice can’t be heard that there is somebody advocating for you to be heard."

"I think that is really important," she added.

Multiple myeloma, also known as myeloma, is a type of bone marrow cancer according to the NHS. Bone marrow is the spongy tissue at the centre of some bones that produces the body's blood cells.

In April, actor Paul announced his beloved mother Dearbhla is taking on the disease and couldn't make the Olivier Awards bash at London's Royal Albert Hall

Paul made sure he mentioned his watching dad and of course his supportive mum, whilst making his acceptance speech.

The Irish star received the Best Actor prize for his powerful performance as Stanley Kowalski in the West End revival of A Streetcar Named Desire.

On the night he told reporters: “My mum and dad are at home. My mum’s unwell at the moment, so hopefully it’ll give her a little bit of a lift and dad as well who is looking after.

“It kind of feels maybe narcissistic or egotistical to assume that that will help anything, but I hope that it does."

He went on to explain that he is struggling to accept that he has his hands on an Oliver Award.

Paul said: “I feel like I hear people say it all the time, but it doesn’t feel real!"

The actor found fame in the television adaptation of Sally Rooney's hit book, Normal People, opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones.

He won huge critical acclaim and a BAFTA award for his role as Connell.
