Eurovision Song Contest fans were puzzled then delighted to see Ben Adams from iconic ‘90s pop band A1 make an appearance to present the jury votes on behalf of Norway.

The 41-year-old singer topped the charts in the past with fellow singers Paul Marazzi, Christian Ingebrigtsen and Mark Read - with their cover of Ah Ha’s Take On Me storming to number 1 back in 2000.

The lads also enjoyed hits with songs including Same Old Brand New You, Everytime/Ready Or Not, and Caught In The Middle.

But Ben has enjoyed success away from A1 - with solo music of his own and as one half of zany electro-pop outfit Subwoolfer alongside Norwegian singer Gaute Ormåsen.

Ben and Gaute performed on Eurovision in 2022 while dressed as yellow wolves - and their identities have remained a mystery, until now.

Appearing during the 2023 contest, Ben confirmed he is indeed one half of the bonkers music act. Beaming in from Norway via satellite link, Ben announced: “This is Ben Adams, also known as Keith from Subwoolfer. Thanks for an amazing show tonight.

Referencing his own performance form the year before, he joked: ”Great to see Eurovision uniting Europe once again, albeit with a few less bananas or yellow space balls this time around.

“Maybe next year. Or maybe not?”

Ben’s appearance sparked some confusion for some Eurovision fans who were tuning in on Saturday night.

Radio One presenter Dean McCullough asked: "What's Ben Adams off of A1 fame doing in Norway?"

While one fan tweeted: "YES BEN ADAMS!!!"

And another wrote: "Ben Adams from A1 I had a crush on him once years ago."

Ben himself had already let the cat out of the bag earlier in the day by sharing an Instagram post of himself preparing his lines and wearing Subwoolfer merchandise.

He wrote alongside a cheery snap: “Hard at ‘work’ preparing for my spokesperson role @eurovision with a decapitated Keith from @subwoolfer.” He continued: “45 seconds or less of 200 million people’s eyes on us. Blink and you’ll miss us. Miss us and you’ll cry. And vote Norway of course!”

Ultimately, Norway did not win this year - while neighbouring nation Sweden took the top prize.

Singer Loreen announced she was shocked to win the contest for the second time, having previously won back in 2012.

She said following the competition: “It feels crazy. This is so surreal, man, I’m happy and I’m thankful, I’m thankful to all you guys out there that voted for me.

“The only thing I feel right now is so much love. Not in my wildest dreams did I think this was going to happen.”

Meanwhile, the UK returned to the traditional depths of the contest results - finishing second last despite being in second place last year.

Singer Mae Muller belted out her track I Wrote A Song but failed to capture Europe's attention, and scooped just 24 points, leaving the UK in second-to-last place just ahead of Germany.
