Coronation Street's Chris Fountain gives health update hours after heart surgery

Chris Fountain has given a health update after undergoing surgery to fix a hole in his heart - and after he suffered a stroke last year.

The 35-year-old soap actor was in hospital this week to undergo a procedure - and confessed it was ‘nerve-wracking’ preparing to go into surgery.

But now the star has informed fans he is back on his feet and he has been out stretching his legs after being treated.

Taking to social media on Friday, the actor showed that he was walking around, but feeling some discomfort, after the procedure.

Addressing the camera, Chris - who was pacing through hospital corridor and wearing a hospital gown - explained that he was being checked on by medics following his surgery.

“But I am glad to be out of bed because my legs were are starting to go numb.”

Chris continued: “What a day. I have to be honest. I was really quite nervous when I went into the anaesthetist room. “It all became very real. But it was a night. It was really nice when I started to go to sleep. It felt lovely.”

He added: “I’ve just had some tests. They came to do some echocardiograms just to check the device is in the right place and working and not leaking and all that.

“So far so good.”

In October 2022, Chris recalled that he was told by doctors that he had suffered a Transient Ischaemic Attack after he woke up one morning and couldn’t create words.

Tests showed that the left side of his brain, which controls cognitive abilities, had been damaged and that a hole in his heart could have allowed a blow clot to move to his brain.

He underwent surgery on Friday to correct the hole.

Before he had the surgery, Chris described the procedure he was due to have to his followers on Instagram.

He said: "What they do is go in through my groin, go up to my heart and put this thing through where the hole is. And it leaves a metal umbrella and they pull it through. It leaves another little metal umbrella at the other side," Fountain shared.

"Then my heart grows around it — and hopefully, that should mean no more strokes. And I'll have a little bionic heart!"

He continued: "It's a little bit nerve-wracking, as it's a heart procedure, but apparently it's 99.9% successful. I'll have to take it easy for a week or so after it's done. So yeah, we do [London Marathon] and then we go to do a heart operation, as you do."
