Trent Alexander-Arnold has named Alisson's dramatic winner against West Brom in May 2021 as his favourite Liverpool assist... even though it wasn't intentional.

Liverpool fans will struggle to forget the goalkeeper's incredible header in the dying seconds of the Premier League game. With the score level at 1-1, Alisson came up for a corner to nod in Alexander-Arnold's irresistible delivery and snatch an unlikely 2-1 win.

The result was crucial to Liverpool's campaign, as it helped them finish third in the table and qualify for the Champions League - just three points ahead of Leicester in fifth. Alexander-Arnold believes Alisson's vital header does not get the attention it deserves.

Statistically speaking, Alexander-Arnold has been the most creative player in the Premier League over the last month. As such, the England international was asked to recall his favourite ever assist during a recent interview with the Premier League.

He replied: " My favourite would be Ali's. It is probably the easiest technically to do, because it's a corner, but the fact of the importance on it is crazy. I think it's so underrated and it goes under the radar as to how big that goal was for us.

"I could lie and say I aim for Ali, if that makes it sound better - but I didn't. It was a good ball, though, I can't lie. It was a special, special goal. I was speaking about this with my mates the other day and the only way this goal gets better is if it's for the title."

As Alexander-Arnold protests, the importance of that goal cannot be understated. Liverpool were eighth in the table after their 1-0 home defeat to Fulham in March 2021, a result that made it six successive home defeats in the Premier League.

Yet they picked up 26 points from their final 10 games to finish third. Their victory against West Brom was their most crucial, as it kept them within touching distance of the top four and ready to pounce when Leicester surprisingly lost their final two games.

Alexander-Arnold has faced criticism this season but is back to his best, picking up six assists in his last eight Premier League games. His revival has come at the perfect time, with Liverpool once again making a late push for a top-four spot.

Jurgen Klopp's side have won six consecutive Premier League games to move up to fifth in the table, one point behind Manchester United in fourth and three points behind Newcastle in third. Liverpool have played a game more than both teams.

Liverpool have a good chance of snatching a Champions League spot if they can win their remaining three fixtures against Leicester (away), Aston Villa (home) and Southampton (away). Klopp has already played down his team's chances of finishing in the top four.

He has said: "Of course, if we imagine they [Newcastle and Man Utd] would [slip up]. But I don’t think they will, we will be there and we would really regret that. But if United win their two games in hand and then they are seven points away, it is pretty much done."
