Notts County will take an army of fans to Wembley this Saturday as they bid to return to the football league - and two famous Wrexham rivals could well be joining them.

Hollywood A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were both in the stands for the virtual title decider between the two sides in April, which the Dragons won 3-2 following Ben Foster's injury time penalty save. Wrexham duly went on to seal the title and promotion, sending The Magpies into the play offs.

And it seemed the English club has blown their chances when they trailed Boreham Wood 2-1 deep into injury time, only for Aden Baldwin to strike a 97th minute equaliser. And then in the final minute of extra time, it was Jodi Jones who sent Meadow Lane into raptures.

Now only Chesterfield stand between Notts County and a return to the football league. The club has not graced League Two since being relegated in the 2018/19 campaign.

And it seems Reynolds and McElhenney are both keen to see their rivals rewarded for pushing their team to the wire this season. Wrexham captain Ben Tozer has revealed via the RobRyanRed - Wrexham AFC podcast that both are now due to fly in from America in order to be present when Notts County kick off in the national stadium.

Indeed, after Wrexham sealed National League title glory, Reynolds revealed he and McElhenney would be supporting Notts County in the play-offs. "It's something Rob and I feel quite strongly about," he said.

Should Wrexham's owners support Notts County at Wembley? Have your say in the comments section

"We are rooting for Notts County. We want to see them go up to League Two and face them next year. They're incredible. I have such enormous respect for everything they've built and everything that they've done and it's just insane for me that only one goes up automatically."

However, the news has been met with a mixed reaction by Wrexham fans, with many arguing their new heroes shouldn't be embracing opposition: "They need to cut this out!! It's a no from me. Shows how class our owners are but they will soon learn," said @dodgewrexham.

And @wxmtoon1 added: "If true, I don't agree. I want Notts County to win the playoff final, but for me this is a no go. If the shoe was on the other foot, no one from Notts County board would travel to cheer on Wrexham."

Tozer and co are unlikely to be questioning the actions of the owners though, given they have just returned from an four day all-expenses trip to Las Vegas. The jaunt to the US was a reward for the squad for winning the National League title.
