Liverpool are making a late push for Champions League qualification, having won their last six Premier League games to leave them just a point off Manchester United in fourth.

The Reds have played one game more than United, but Erik ten Hag's side have lost their last two games and Liverpool will be hoping their poor form continues. Jurgen Klopp's men have just three league matches left to play this season against relegation candidates Leicester and Southampton and fellow European chasers Aston Villa.

Here are the latest headlines and from Merseyside ahead of Liverpool's final three crunch Premier League fixtures.

Five players set for exits

Liverpool are set for a major rebuild this summer and at least five players are expected to depart Anfield. Loanee Arthur Melo has made just one senior team appearance all season and confirmed earlier this week that he hopes to "say goodbye" to the fans before returning to Juventus.

Veteran James Milner is expected to leave after eight seasons at Anfield, with Brighton interested in signing him on a free. Fellow midfielders Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also set to follow him out the door when their contracts expire this summer.

Neville makes Klopp claim

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has claimed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp "deserves" to be backed by owners Fenway Sports Group this summer as they owe him for deflecting criticism aimed at them.

"Jurgen Klopp has shielded FSG in terms of net spend over the years," he said on the Gary Neville Podcast. "Yes, they've been smart and it's what Sir Alex Ferguson did for the Glazers, where Sir Alex would say there was no value in the market and Klopp has been quite prudent and pragmatic and he's not panicked, and they've waited for players which is the right way to do it you always want to be measured.

"I don't think Jurgen would go out there and be reckless in the transfer market but there comes a point where if he wants a player they're going to have to put down the money and it is going to cost them significantly to get back to where he wants to be… He deserves that."

5 players set to leave Liverpool as Gary Neville makes Jurgen Klopp claimConstruction of the new stand on Anfield Road is nearing completion.

Liverpool's Premier League request

Liverpool have asked the Premier League if they can begin next season with an away game in order to allow construction work on the new Anfield Road stand to be completed.

The extension will see Anfield's capacity rise to 61,000 and, although work first began back in September 2021, the need to keep the existing stand open for matches means it has taken longer to complete the construction. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, club staffer Paul Cuttill revealed: "We get asked each year and we've put in a request for our first game of the season to be away from home.

"We haven't had that confirmed yet by the Premier League, I must stress. However, if it is confirmed, we're looking at around August 19 for our first home game of the new season to be played here with the Anfield Road stand open, brand new."
