First Google, now Samsung has another phone it needs to worry about
Samsung continues to make some of the most popular foldable phones on the planet but the list of rivals trying to steal its crown is about to get bigger. Google has just confirmed it is about to unleash its Pixel Fold which features a design that opens like a book to reveal a giant screen.
If that wasn't bad enough for Samsung, Chinese firm Huawei has now confirmed that it will release a striking new foldable called the Mate X3.
This device features an upgraded design that now makes it one of the thinnest and lightest on the market. In fact, it weighs in fast just 239g - that's compared to Samsung's 263g Z Fold4.
On the front of this call maker is a 6.4-inch screen which then opens to reveal a massive 7.85-inch tablet-style display which is big enough to multitask, play games and answer the daily dose of emails.
Those worried about this device lasting years in their pocket will be pleased to hear that Huawei has made things far more durable
Jake Paul calls on John Fury to make retirement bet for fight with son TommyHuawei says its new Wing-Shaped Dual-Track Rotating Shaft enables precise and effortless movement with each fold. The hinge is also made of aviation-grade aluminium alloy that is not only ultra-light and ultra-thin, but also extra-durable and long-lasting. We're sure there will be plenty of YouTube videos testing this statement so watch this space.
To help boost protection further, the Mate X3 is covered in durable Kunlun Glass which makes it 10x more drop-resistant.
On the rear case, you'll find a new camera system which includes a 50 MP Ultra Vision Main Camera, a 13 MP Ultra-Wide Angle Camera, and a 12 MP Periscope Telephoto Camera.
Head under the hood and there's a 4800mAh battery that supports 66 W SuperCharge refilling. There's also quick wireless charging as well.
This device certainly looks mightily impressive. However, there is one elephant in the room as Huawei's Mate X3 remains unable to access apps such as Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube and the all-important Play Store. That's due to the ongoing issues with the US and its Huawei ban which has been active since 2019.
Huawei is confident that its own-brand App Gallery continues to improve and many popular services such as TikTok, Snapchat and Microsoft Word can be installed via this platform.
It still can't match Google and that might be a sticking point for consumers along with the very high price. The Mate X3 starts from a whopping £1,999.99 - that's around £400 more than Samsung's Z Fold4.
Huawei is stocking the Mate X3 now with other retailers expected to follow later this month.
Speaking about the release, Richard Yu, Huawei's chief executive officer of Consumer Business Group, said: "HUAWEI Mate X3 is a superb all-round foldable flagship that meets users' expectations of a large-screen foldable phone. Combining Huawei's innovative technology, pioneering aesthetics and powerful performance, HUAWEI Mate X3 will bring consumers the ultimate experience unlike any other, and lead the way to a new era for foldable smartphones."
