Wrexham's Hollywood owners are already making moves for a tilt at League Two by lining up their first signing of the summer - but they have a fight on their hands to get him.

Since the club's exhilarating National League title win, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney haven't been afraid to put their hands in their pocket and reward the players. After last Tuesday's trophy winning parade through the town, the players jetted off for a four-day trip in Las Vegas to continue the party.

And the A-list pair have pledged further investment after the Dragons returned to the football league for the first time in 15 years. As well as a brand new training facility, manager Phil Parkinson has been promised funds to bring in extra additions to his squad.

And highly-rated Cheltenham Town striker Alfie May has emerged as their first big target. The 29-year-old signed off for the season with his 23rd league goal of the campaign on Sunday, as his side finished 16th in League One.

May has just over 12 months remaining on his current contract in Gloucestershire - and there is no release clause attached. But his club may choose to listen to offers this summer instead of waiting for him to walk away when his deal expires.

Wrexham can no doubt offer May a healthy financial package, but will need to persuade him to drop down to a division that he's previously won with The Robins. But the prospect of a mouth-watering partnership up front with the club's star striker, Paul Mullin, will no doubt get fans excited.

However, according to , Championship clubs Huddersfield, Millwall, Luton and Birmingham are also all interested. Indeed, it was Birmingham who failed with a deadline day approach in January.

Peterborough, Derby and Gillingham have also been linked, but Wrexham's new target is at least looking more likely than the star they've been currently courting - Gareth Bale. Despite the former Real Madrid man himself dismissing talk of a potential deal, McElhenney made another sales pitch this week.

“Gareth, okay – just you and me talking here for a second,” McElhenney said on ’ The Aarthi & Sriram Show ’. “I know Southern California is beautiful and I know, because I'm from Philadelphia and I've lived here for many years. But you're a young man, and you have the rest of your life to live wherever you want. But, if you could just come back for one last year of glory – one last year – I believe your nation, the nation of Wales, is counting on you to do the right thing. Call me.”
