Eurovision's Mae Muller has ritual involving Harry Styles to ensure 'good vibes'

Harry Styles will be coming to Mae Muller's rescue ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest, she has revealed.

The singer-songwriter is hoping to win the competition on behalf of the United Kingdom with her hit I Wrote A Song has not shied away from her excitement.

Now, the 25-year-old has revealed how Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Harry Styles will be helping to calm her nerves on the big day.

Millions will be tuning in to see the UK go head-to-head against the likes of Sweden, Norway, France and Ukraine but Mae is hoping the nerves won't be too much for her.

When discussing any pre-performance rituals, she explained: "I always have to have a tea, any kind of herbal tea with a lot of honey in it.

"I have it out of my Harry Styles mug which just gives me the good vibes, I know if Harry's with me, then I know it's going to be ok."

The London-born songstress explained that it's a "huge honour" to be representing the nation and believes it's "extra, extra special," to be hosting on behalf of Ukraine.

But while Mae's entry song may be about heartbreak, she admits that she wants people to be dancing away during the competition.

She said: "All my music kind of derives from my personal experiences but I just wanted to write something empowering, that would get everyone up off their seats.

"I think when we go through negative things like a breakup, or any kind of heartache, it's really easy to focus on the negatives and get lost in that but I wanted to focus on the empowerment of that and how we can navigate those emotions to come out the other side, feeling confident."

Fans can expect "some sass" during her performance which she describes as a "big party".

While many competition entrees wouldn't dare dream of befriending their competition, this is not the case for Muller, as she explained that she's been getting to know singers from other countries and is "looking forward" to seeing them "smash it" on May 13.

Despite being British, Mae is hoping to get a German passport after her grandfather, Robert, fled Germany for Britain due to Nazi occupation.

Germany has been involved in a conciliatory process, offering citizenship to descendants of Nazi persecution.

Speaking about the decision, Mae told The Sunday Times: "It means we can live in Spain," and it also means that following Brexit, she will be able to tour across the European Union without masses of paperwork.
